ARTXTRA Monday offers a vibrant, hands-on art programme for children.
Term 1:
Discover a thrilling trio of creative adventures spanning three distinct projects!
Project 1: The Modern Tapestry: Step into the sharp, satirical world of contemporary artist Grayson Perry. Students explore how Perry remixes 18th-century painter William Hogarth's cautionary tales into 21st-century tech-boom narratives, analysing modern symbols of wealth before collaborating to build a massive grid-method tapestry wall display.
Project 2: Texture & Tone Shells: Master the fundamentals of fine-art mark-making. Students train their pencils to speak new visual languages—exploring hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling without a single smudge in sight—to capture the complex textures, highlights, and deep shadows of a real-life shell.
Project 3: Van Gogh's Chairs: Step into the expressive, emotional palette of Vincent van Gogh. Students play colour detective to decode famous still lifes, master traditional chair studies, and finally bring everyday furniture to life using vibrant, high-energy chalk pastels inspired by post-impressionist brilliance.
Weekly themes keep things fresh, from surrealist collages to seasonal projects and artist-inspired work.
Mixed-age groups create a supportive, confidence-building environment where young artists learn from each other. Supports the National Curriculum, ARTXTRA focuses on processes over perfection, nurturing curiosity, independence, and creative growth throughout the year.
Children who wish to study or who are studying GCSE may attend this group.
